The Iranian National Library ( Persian کتابخانه ملی ایران Ketāb-Chāneh-ye Mellī-e Irān ; NLI) is a library locatedin the capital Tehran , the branches of which are spread over the entire city.

The first prototype of a national library in Iran was the Dar-ol Fonun library, founded in 1851 . Another library, the Library of the Nation , was opened in 1899 . The official inauguration of the National Library took place in 1937. It comprised several collections from older libraries, including rare and valuable manuscripts .

The main branch of today's library complex is located in the northern center of the city and is in its final construction phase. The new building consists of five halls, each with a science area, such as B. the humanities, are assigned and are on a single level.

The new library building covers a total area of ​​over 90,000 m² and is thus one of the largest library areas in the Near and Middle East .
