Irene Beyeler

Irene Beyeler (born August 11, 1985 ) is a Swiss sports shooter . She shoots in the disciplines of small caliber three-position combat and air rifle as well as with the crossbow .

She achieved her greatest successes in the Olympic disciplines with the small bore rifle in the team competition: She won the gold medal at the 2004 European Junior Championships in Munich , as well as the 2007 European Championships in Granada . In 2007 she was able to achieve a quota place for the Swiss team and therefore takes part in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing .

Especially in the various (non-Olympic) crossbow disciplines, Beyeler is among the best in the world. So far she has been twice Junior World Champion (2003) and twice U23 European Champion (2005). She dominated the U23 World Championship in Steyr in 2006 when she won gold in six disciplines, including the team classification. She achieved two more victories in the team classification at the Junior European Championship in 2005 and at the World Championship in 2008. She holds the world record in nine disciplines (as of July 2008).

Irene Beyeler lives in Schwarzenburg and works as a customer advisor at a regional bank. Her older brother Simon Beyeler is also a marksman.
