Irene Stegun
Irene Ann Stegun (born February 9, 1919 in Yonkers , New York , † January 27, 2008 in Danbury (Connecticut) ) was an American mathematician.
In 1941 she made her Masters at Columbia University . From 1943 she worked at the National Bureau of Standards (NBS). When the head of the Handbook Project , Milton Abramowitz , died in July 1958, she took over the management and completed it in 1964. She herself wrote the chapters Legendre Functions and Miscellaneous Functions .
She is best known for her book Handbook of Mathematical Functions with Formulas, Graphs, and Mathematical Tables .
