Markus-Verlag (Markus Verlagsgesellschaft mbH Cologne ) was a German publisher which, in close cooperation with the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Federal Ministry of Defense, published political books , often directed against the GDR , as well as military and police-related books. The East German MfS tried in vain to influence the publisher.

The Markus Verlag existed from 1951 to approx. 1994. It was founded as a subsidiary of the M. DuMont Schauberg publishing house and was presumably led by Eberhard Taubert in the early years . In 1953, Helmut Bohn first joined Markus-Verlag as editor and publishing director, in 1960 Markus-Verlag was spun off from the Du Mont Schauberg Group and taken over by Helmut Bohn (1914–1998) and Klaus Mathy (1918–1993). In 1969 Mathy left the publishing house. At the beginning of the 1990s, the publisher ceased operations.

The publishing authors included u. a. Boris Meissner , Ernst Riggert , Erwin Scheuch , Carl-Christoph Schweitzer and Kurt Sontheimer . From 1951 to 1973 the publisher was the editor of the magazine Die Parole ISSN  0031-238X of the Federal Border Guard . The soldiers' magazine Visier was also initially published by Markus Verlag. From 1971 to 1990 the publisher published the journal Articles on Conflict Research - Psychopolitical Aspects ISSN 0045-169X , initiated by General Johannes Gerber .

1970 to 1988, together with the Federation of Freedom of Science, the university policy information ISSN  0170-3382 was published, and 1971–1973 the educational policy information service (BID) - information of the German Association of Philologists (DPhV) (excluding ISSN).

The company archive 1960–1994 is in the Rheinisch-Westfälisches Wirtschaftsarchiv Cologne .

The publisher introduced ISBN very late (around 1986) , these begin with 3-87511- .

The publishers of the same name u. a. in Eupen and Munich are not identical with this publisher.
