Ireviken (also Ihrviken ) is a bay with more than 10 km of coastline on the west coast of the Swedish island of Gotland . This coastal area is located in the Hangvar parish , 28 km north of Visby . The river Ireån coming from Tingstädeträsk flows into the bay.

Beach and nature

The bay is framed by high cliffs , which mean that many consider the beach, which is in the middle of the coastline, to be one of the most beautifully situated on the island. It is also one of the most visited beaches on Gotland and is considered one of Gotland's best bathing beaches.

Ireviken is a holiday home area, which is characterized by the almost 200 summer houses that are located on forest properties. The houses were built a long time ago and the area therefore has a special character without the atmosphere of a mass-produced holiday home area.

Sigsarve Beach is located in the northern part of Ireviken. This also forms the beginning of the 28 km² largest nature reserve on Gotland, Hall Hangvars nature reserve . From Sigsarve the nature reserve extends over a 25 km long coastal stretch. In the eastern part of the reserve, on the other side of the road, lies the Träskmyr bog , the largest preserved bog on Gotland. It is a so-called agmyr (Swedish for a chalk- rich moor in which the rush edge (Swedish ag ) is dominant) on Gotland. There are also many unusual orchids in the nature reserve, for example the common needle rose (Swedish Gotlandssolvända ) and brown eyebright (Swedish brun ögontröst ).
