Irina Pawlowna Princess Paley, Countess von Hohenfelsen (born December 21, 1903 in Paris , † November 15, 1990 there ) was a granddaughter of Emperor Alexander II of Russia.

Life

Irina was the daughter of Grand Duke Pawel Alexandrowitsch Romanow (1860-1919) and his second wife Olga von Pistohlkors (1865-1929), later Countess of Hohenfelsen and Princess Paley. She grew up in Paris with her two siblings Vladimir Pawlowitsch (1897-1918) and Natalia Pawlowna (1905-1981). Irina had half-siblings through both parents' first marriages. On the maternal side, Alexander von Pistolkohrs (1885–1944), Olga von Pistolkohrs (1888–1963) and Marianna von Pistolkohrs (1890–1976), and on the paternal side Marija Pavlovna Romanowa (1890–1958) and Dmitri Pawlowitsch Romanow (1891–1942). The latter was jointly responsible for the murder of the itinerant preacher Rasputin . In 1914 her family was allowed to live in Russia again .

After the October Revolution , the Romanovs' assets were confiscated and many family members were placed under house arrest in the Alexander Palace , including Irina's father and his family. Her brother Vladimir was taken to Alapayevsk , where he was later murdered by the Cheka along with other members of the Romanov family . Her father was shot dead by the Bolsheviks in 1919 in the Peter and Paul Fortress . In 1920 Irina fled to France with her mother and sister via Finland .

On May 21, 1923, she married her cousin (first degree) Prince Fyodor Alexandrovich Romanov (1898–1968), second son of Grand Duke Alexander Mikhailovich Romanov and the Tsar's daughter Xenia Alexandrovna Romanova . The marriage resulted in a son, Michail (1924-2008). In 1934 their daughter Irene was born from a liaison and on July 22, 1936, her marriage to Fyodor was divorced. On April 11, 1950, she married Hubert Conquéré de Monbrison (1892–1981), the father of her daughter, in Paris.
