Irmela Wendt

Irmela Wendt (born May 15, 1916 in Donop ; † July 11, 2012 in Dörentrup ) was a German children's book author and translator .

Irmela Wendt wrote over 20 books for children and young people as well as more than 100 texts in anthologies and school books. In many of her works, she deals with her own war experiences. Her books have so far been translated into six languages. In 1988 the school for language-impaired primary school children in the Lippe district was named after Irmela Wendt. They do not overlook their book Fehler - only Menschen , which has already reached several editions, appeared in 2004 as a revised new edition.

Life

Irmela Wendt was born in the Donop rectory and spent the first years of her life there. When she started school, she came to the Sollenhof in Hillentrup . After graduating from the Engelbert-Kaempfer-Gymnasium in Lemgo in 1935 , Wendt began to study pedagogy, psychology and German in Hamburg . She then worked as a primary school teacher. She later worked as the principal of the Dörentrup-West primary school until her retirement in 1979. After her death, the Lippische Landesbibliothek in Detmold took over part of her estate.
