history

Hillentrup is a foundation of the old Saxon settlement phase. The first documented mention of Hillentrup comes from the list of goods in the Minden Cathedral Chapter from around 1260. In the late Middle Ages, Hillentrup was the seat of a lower court, the Gogericht . The Hillentrup church was probably destroyed in the first half of the 15th century during the Sternberg feud of 1424 by "robbery and fire". However, the receptacle for the host survived this accident unscathed. As a result, the insignificant church village became a regionally important pilgrimage site and was endowed with foundations by believers. For the pilgrims, who mainly came from Lemgo , catering was set up in a pub. The jug in the churchyard in Hillentrup, which has existed since the 15th century, is one of the oldest detectable jugs in Lippe. The pilgrimages stopped with the Reformation . In the 16th century the Order of St. John still had the right to appoint the pastors of Hilltrup.

On January 1, 1969 Hillentrup became part of the municipality Dörentrup.
