Irmingard von Freyberg (born January 6, 1907 in Munich , † March 29, 1985 in Würzburg ) was a German graphic artist and cutter .

Irmingard von Freyberg came from the old south German noble family of Freyberg . Her parents were Ludwig von Freyberg and Therese Freifrau von Freyberg, née Schloer. Inspired by a book with silhouettes by Paul Konewka , she began to cut fairy tale pictures at the age of five. Irmingard von Freyberg wanted to be an actress, but her parents sent her to the State School for Applied Arts in Munich. There she studied from 1926 to 1929 with Emil Preetorius, among others . After completing her studies, she worked as a graphic designer and illustrator, but earned her living until after World War II by producing ceramics in her own kiln. The director Heinz Hilpert brought them to the theater. Around 1949 she took acting lessons with Gertrude Eysoldt for two years . Then Irmingard von Freyberg took on theater and film roles, wrote scripts, directed and designed decorations. In 1960, Luigi Malipiero asked her to take care of the Sommerhausen Gate Tower Theater while he was running a new, less successful branch in Berlin. The collaboration ended after a year. When the era of television dawned, the artist was able to combine her inclinations for theatrical art and paper cutting. From 1955 to 1972 she created over 60 shadow plays for television. Irmingard von Freyberg also began to illustrate books. Since 1958 she lived in Sommerhausen , where she was buried in the cemetery on April 1, 1985.
