Iron Horses MC

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Iron Horses MC is one of the oldest still active German motorcycle clubs . It was founded in 1966 and is widespread in Europe and Central America.

history

The Iron Horses MC, like many later German motorcycle clubs, was initially founded by American soldiers stationed in Germany . The establishment took place in 1966 in a small pub in Fürth , which at that time temporarily served as the first clubhouse. The name of the club IRON HORSES was based on the army unit OLD IRONSIDES and the club purpose motorcycles, ie "HORSES". The club colors yellow-black come from the old American army badge of the 1st cavalry , which had a horse's head. The resulting logo of the motorcycle club has remained almost unchanged to this day. However, the chapter name "Fürth" was changed to Nuremberg in the early 1970s . The founding president was Charles E. Brothers, known as "Charlie", who stayed in Germany even after his service ended and was an active member of the club until his death in 2008. The Iron Horses MC was part of the Nuremberg rocker scene, which called itself the “Nuremberg family” and organized rallies together.

At the beginning of the 1970s, the club also opened up to German members. In 1974 the club organized the first Presi-Rally together with the Lawmen MC Frankfurt . Originally the first meeting was to be held in their clubhouse, but the space could not be used, so the Frankfurt Lawmen made their clubhouse available. The meeting was chaired by Brothers. In 1980 the first foreign chapter was founded in The Hague , Netherlands . In 1981 and 1983 two chapters followed in Belgium, 1983 in Switzerland and 1986 in Italy. The third chapter in Germany was founded in Munich. Over the years, other chapters in Europe were added, including in Great Britain and Hungary . In 2014 the club expanded to Central America and has chapters in Guatemala "Spring City" and since 2016 in Santa Ana , El Salvador .

Organizational structure and color

The Iron Horses MC has a one-piece color with the lettering and a drawing that shows a horse on a motorcycle. This logo and the club colors black and yellow have remained unchanged since the creation and are worn by the entire club. An exception was the chapter in Bern, whose three-part color was adapted to the Swiss rocker scene. The back patch wore the colors green-black and showed a horse on a motorcycle with an iron cross in the background.

In the early years there was still the so-called Assoc patch. Members could apply for this for friends or their friend. These “associates” can be compared with today's “ supporters ”. Women could also become full members until the mid-1980s. The Iron Horses MC describes itself as a neutral club that maintains friendships with all local clubs on various parts of the world, regardless of color and size. Club life mainly takes place on the street or on a motorcycle. In addition to the parties, the club has two mandatory dates every year, the “International Run”, which means a trip to a friendly club, and an annual party at the end of the motorcycle season.
