List of rocker terms

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of rocker terms collects various terms, slogans and abbreviations from the field of rocker , “motorcycle clubs” and one-per-center .

General

Members of the biker and rocker subculture use a special language that is in "opposition to the dominant culture". Their special style of language serves to distinguish them from other subcultures and facilitate communication within their own scene. The rocker language is strongly influenced by Anglicisms from America , the country of origin . The more youthful style of language developed from the hooligan scene of the 1950s and is sometimes characterized in the media as “poor” and “primitive”, which is probably related to the generally negative reporting on the rocker scene. Sociolinguistically, it is a communication style that was described as very direct and clear, especially in the 1970s and 1980s. The rocker language is very expressive, blunt and specifically descriptive. It is considered to be groundbreaking for the language of other Western subcultures that also used Anglicisms.

The following list takes into account expressions that are explained and used in literature and media from the rocker scene (for example Ulrich Detrois : Höllenritt. A German Hells Angel unpacks ), but media reports are also taken into account. Those phrases that have become common (youth) language usage were not taken into account.
