Irving D. Tressler

Irving Dart Tressler (born August 12, 1908 in Madison , Wisconsin , † February 16, 1944 in Shorewood Hills , Wisconsin) was an American writer and journalist .

Life

Tressler was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin , which he graduated in 1930 with a Bachelor of Arts on Door County sketches . From 1934 to 1936 he was with editor of the magazine Life . From 1936 to 1939 he was the author of the monthly Scribner's Magazine Quiz. His articles have appeared in a variety of magazines. He was also the author of several books, including the 1937 bestseller How to Lose Friends and Alienate People , which has also been translated into Spanish ( Como perder amigos y crearse enemistades ) and Portuguese ( Como perder amigos e aborrecer pessoas ). This is a parody of the bestseller How to Win Friends ( How to Win Friends ) by Dale Carnegie . The English-language title of the parody was used by British journalist Toby Young for his 2002 bestseller How to Lose Friends & Alienate People , which was filmed in 2008 under the title New York for Beginners ( How to Lose Friends & Alienate People ). Tressler committed suicide on February 16, 1944, in Shorewood Hills , Wisconsin, at the age of 35 after feeling very depressed about his poor health.
