Irwin LaRocque (* 1955 in Dominica ) is a diplomat and government official from Dominica, the seventh since 2011, Secretary General of the Caribbean Community CARICOM (Caribbean Community and Common Market) is.

Life

Irwin LaRocque attended after school to study subjects political philosophy , political economy and economics at Queens College of the City University of New York (CUNY), the New School for Social Research (NSRF) and the New York University (NYU). After his return, he initially worked in the private sector and then entered the public service. He served as Senior Policy Advisor to the Government for Regional Integration and International Trade as well as a senior policy adviser for the review of the Treaty of Chaguaramas , the establishing of the August 1, 1973 Caribbean Community CARICOM (Caribbean Community and Common Market) led. He became permanent secretary of the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Enterprise, Development and Tourism in 1991 and finally permanent secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs until 2005. As such, he was head of the diplomatic service in the rank of ambassador and also a member of the multinational IGTF (Inter-Governmental Task Force) , which drafted the amended Chaguaramas Treaty signed in 2001.

In September 2005, LaRocque became CARICOM's Deputy Secretary General for Trade and Economic Integration. In this role, he supported CARICOM Secretary General Edwin W. Carrington in the introduction and further development of the common market and the economy of the Caribbean community through programs in the economic sectors of agriculture, services, industry, energy and information and communication technologies. Furthermore, in the field of human resource and youth development, he advocated the promotion of the social sector, which for him is an important building block for the promotion of CARICOM.

After the end of the term of office of CARICOM General Secretary Edwin W. Carrington on December 31, 2010 and a subsequent provisional term of office of Lolita Applewhaite from Barbados , Irwin LaRocque was appointed as her successor on July 21, 2011 and finally took over on August 15, 2011 the office as the seventh Secretary General of the Caribbean Community CARICOM (Caribbean Community and Common Market) .
