Iryna Kalimbet

Iryna Wolodymyriwna Kalimbet ( Ukrainian Ірина Володимирівна Калімбет ; born February 29, 1968 in Kiev ) is a former Soviet rower who won an Olympic silver medal in 1988.

Athletic career

Iryna Kalimbet won at the Junior World Championships in 1985 the bronze medal with the Soviet sculls , 1986, she finished second in one . At the 1987 World Championships in Copenhagen , Switlana Masij , Marina Schukowa , Iryna Kalimbet and Antonina Dumtschewa received the bronze medal in the four-four behind the boats from the GDR and Bulgaria. At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 , the double foursome from the GDR won with over two seconds ahead of Iryna Kalimbet, Switlana Masij, Inna Frolowa and Antonina Dumtschewa, who in turn were 0.34 seconds ahead of third-placed Romanians. In 1989 the World Championships took place in Bled, Natalia Kwasja , Marja Omeljanowitsch , Switlana Masij and Iryna Kalimbet won the silver medal behind the GDR double four.

The 1.86 m tall Iryna Kalimbet rowed for Dynamo Kiev .
