Isengard was a Norwegian music project by Darkthrone drummer Fenriz . The name Isengard comes from JRR Tolkien's book The Lord of the Rings and is the seat of the magician Saruman. The logo comes from the role-playing game MERS , it depicts the vampire Thuringwethil ('Woman from the Secret Shadow'), a character from Tolkien's book The Silmarillion .

Since Fenriz gave up the vocals at Darkthrone, but wanted to continue to be active as a singer, and some of his influences were incompatible with Darkthrone's technical Death Metal style, he realized both with Isengard.

style

Most of the song lyrics are influenced by Norse mythology . Although Isengard's pieces are kept simple, some of them differ considerably from one another. While the first demo is close to Death Metal , others can be described as a mix of Black Metal and elements of Norwegian folk music . Other songs contain elements of these genres, but do not have the typical guttural singing and are close to pagan / viking metal or are similar to the music of the band Storm , in which Fenriz also participated. In an interview with Lucem fero in October 2007, Fenriz said that he doesn't understand why people like Isengard's music so much. Above all, it is the folk metal elements that they prefer, while he himself appreciates Isengard's death and doom metal elements.
