Isidre Esteve Pujol (born May 15, 1972 in La Seu d'Urgell , Lleida ) is a Spanish enduro racer .

Career

In 1995 he was runner-up in the European Enduro Championship. In 1999 he became Spanish Enduro Champion. Isidre Esteve Pujol has taken part in the Dakar Rally several times since 1998 . His best placings were fourth in 2001, 2005 and 2007. In 2004 he won the Orpi Morocco Rally and the UAE Desert Challenge .

At the 2006 Dakar Rally, he had to retire on the ninth stage because he was injured too much to continue driving as a result of two previous falls. Curiously, he unconsciously secured the rally victory of his team-mate Marc Coma , who was about to give up on the same stage due to technical problems on his motorcycle and was waiting for the rally to be organized. When the helicopter that was hauling the motorcycle away from Esteve Pujol happened to fly over Coma, he waved the helicopter over and was able to continue the rally on his motorcycle. In the end, Coma was the overall winner in the motorcycle classification.

Ssangyong Kyron

Esteve Pujol fell badly on March 24, 2007 during the Campeonato de España Todo Terreno near Almería when he drove through a dry river bed and hit a rock. Since then he has been paralyzed down the waist and in a wheelchair. Instead of ending his career, he showed himself combative and worked towards a return to motorsport. However, he can no longer drive a motorcycle and has to switch to the car. From 2008 he took part in marathon rallies for the first time again with his co-driver Eric Auge Medina in his converted SsangYong Kyron . He also contested the 2009 Dakar Rally and was able to reach the goal.
