Islam Shah Suri
Islam Shah Suri (* around 1510 ; † November 22, 1554 ) was the second sultan of the short-lived Surid dynasty, which ruled over large parts of northern India in the middle of the 16th century . His real name was Jalal Khan .
biography
Jalal Khan was the second son of Sher Khan Suri . After his death in 1545 a meeting of nobles appointed him heir to the throne; the older brother Adil Khan was passed over. Jalal Khan took the ruler's name “Islam Shah” and tried to arrest his older brother after an alleged or actual conspiracy was uncovered, but he escaped and assembled an army. There was a battle at Agra , in which Adil Khan suffered a significant defeat. Islam Shah then turned against his brother's supporters and curtailed their privileges and military ranks; In addition, he raised numerous Hindus (including Hemu ) to high state offices, which led to further unrest. But he also reformed the military and judiciary and is generally considered a worthy successor to his father. Islam Shah died in November 1554.
aftermath
His only 12-year-old son Firuz Shah followed him, but was murdered a few days later. The unfinished Islam Shah's mausoleum is about 1 km north of his father's in Sasaram , Bihar .
