Islamic Action Front

The Islamic Action Front ( Arabic جبهة العمل الاسلامي Jabhat al-Amal al-Islami , DMG Ǧabhat al-ʿAmal al-Islāmī ), English Islamic Action Front (IAF), is the Jordanian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood . The IAF was founded in 1992 in response to the liberalization of the Jordanian political party law. The Muslim Brotherhood has existed in Jordan since 1945.

The aim of the IAF is the introduction and application of Islamic law in Jordan. The IAF is considered to be the party with the most supporters in the country.

More radical forces are calling for the swift introduction of Islamic law and openly supporting militant Islamists abroad. In 2006 radical forces dominated the party. The party sees more moderate positions within the IAF as a loyal opposition, strives for a gradual change in society and avoids taking an open position on the side of Hamas .

The IAF advocates the implementation of Islamic law. Moral issues are particularly emphasized, especially if the IAF expects to mobilize with these supporters. In 2006 the IAF campaigned against the sale of alcohol and the use of English in school classes. The IAF has also made the fight against corruption a priority. The IAF represents populist positions on economic issues and protests, among other things. a. against rising fuel prices.

The IAF rejected a terrorism law enacted after the attacks in 2005, which, in addition to the previously prohibited participation in terrorist actions, also criminalizes the support of terrorism.

In 2006 the IAF condemned the Sudanese Islamist Hassan al-Turabi after he had spoken out in favor of a less rigid position on the veiling of women.

Foreign policy positions

Position towards Israel

The IAF continues to reject the 1994 peace treaty between Jordan and Israel .

In its 2003 election manifesto, the IAF stated that the conflict with Israel was of a civilizational nature. There is a fundamental conflict between all Muslims and the State of Israel that cannot be ended with a peace treaty.

During the clashes between Israel and Hezbollah in the summer of 2006, the IAF organized demonstrations with chants shouting "Bombard Tel Aviv!" The participants also expressed their support for Hezbollah and Hamas .

In February 2007, the IAF called on Muslims to fight Israel . Construction work on the forecourt of the Western Wall represented an attack on Islamic religious sites; every Muslim has the duty to take part in the defense against this attack.

Support for militant Islamists

In 1999 the IAF successfully campaigned for the release of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi from Jordanian custody.

After the killing of mainly in Iraq active Abu Mus'ab az-Zarqawi , a deputy of the IAF in the Jordanian Parliament this as "martyrs" tribute. In the 2003 elections to the Jordanian House of Commons , the IAF received 10.3% of the vote.
