Maximilian Steins

Maximilian Steins (born February 20, 1889 in Cologne ; † May 14, 1972 there ) was pastor in Frimmersdorf from 1929 to 1965 . He left a handwritten chronicle that was edited by Jan-Wellem Euwens in 2005 and is an important source of local history.

Steins was ordained a priest on March 2, 1912 and subsequently held various positions. He first worked as a chaplain in Bödingen (Siegkreis), in 1916 in Hochdahl , 1918 in Düsseldorf (St. Suitbertus) and from 1924 as rector at the Invalidenhaus in Cologne.

The Archbishop of Cologne, Karl Joseph Schulte , appointed him his successor on July 16, 1929, and so he succeeded the late Pastor Albert Elkemann as pastor in Frimmersdorf, where he remained until 1965. He spent his old age in Cologne, where he died in 1972.

The pastor's chronicle 1929 to 1959

The chronicle was handwritten by Maximilian Steins and reports on the period between 1929 and 1959. It is a paginated wide octave volume. The first eight pages are lost today. The remaining pages were edited in 2005 by Jan-Wellem Euwens in Volume 16 of the Contributions to the History of the City of Grevenbroich .
