geography

Altenbödingen is about five kilometers east of the Hennef town center on the Nutscheid ridge above the Sieg . The center of the village is 175 m above sea level . Altenbödingen is located on a high road that used to be of great importance as a connecting route between the Rhineland and the Siegerland . With the construction of the railway lines in Siegtal and Bröltal , this connecting road lost its importance.

history

Altenbödingen, the original Bödingen , is probably a Franconian settlement that arose in the first phase of expansion of the settlement area of the conquering Franks . That may have happened towards the end of the 7th or 8th century. 1789 formed Altenbödingen an honor of the parish Geistingen-Hennef.

To the place name

Place names in -ingen, which incidentally occur frequently in the area of Sieg, are usually derived from a personal name and refer to a staff association that is grouped around a dominant personality. Such an association may go back primarily to family ties and therefore be equated with the clan. This does not exclude that other, dependent persons also belonged to it. This knowledge transferred to the old Bödingen leads to the conclusion that in the early days a Bodo with his people, i. H. with his family or clan or other dependent roommates, settled here. Altenbödingen is therefore the settlement of Bodo and his group.

Altenbödingen municipality

After the treaties concluded at the Congress of Vienna , the area came to the Kingdom of Prussia . Under the Prussian administration the community Altenbödingen was the administrative district of the mayoralty Lauthausen assigned to that part of the circle Uckerath in Cologne Region was. After the Uckerath district was dissolved (1820), the Altenbödingen community became part of Siegburg district (renamed Siegkreis in 1825 ).

In addition to Altenbödingen, the municipality also included Allner , Bröl (part), Brölthal and Müschmühle .

In 1885 the community had 526 inhabitants (254 men and 272 women). Except for one citizen of Protestant faith, who was looked after by Siegburg , the community was Catholic. The Catholics belonged to the parishes in Bödingen , Hennef (Sieg) and Happerschoss .

In 1885 the community had an area of 621 ha , of which 175 ha were arable, 89 ha were meadows and 291 ha were forest.

On October 1, 1956, the municipality of Altenbödingen was assigned to the then newly formed municipality Lauthausen. As part of the municipal reorganization of the Bonn area , the unofficial municipality Lauthausen was also dissolved on August 1, 1969, Altenbödingen was assigned to the simultaneously newly formed municipality Hennef (Sieg).
