Söven is a district of the city of Hennef (Sieg) in the North Rhine-Westphalian Rhein-Sieg district . It is located south of the city center in the Bergisches Land nature park . To the west lies Rott , south-east Westerhausen .

history

It is known from the year 948 that today's village was in the area of ​​the Geistingen parish . In 1146 the place is mentioned in a deed of donation as Suuene , other forms were Suuena, Suryfene, Soeven, Suven, Soven and Soeuen. Söven has been documented since 1555.

In the Middle Ages and early modern times, the majority of Sövens belonged to various monasteries in the area, such as the Cistercian monastery in Zissendorf , the Siegburg Abbey and the Heisterbach monastery . In addition to the old agricultural character of the village, there were also quartzite quarries in Söven at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries .

Söven belonged until 1806 Honschaft the parish Geistingen (-Hennef) in Bergisch Office Blankenberg . After the dissolution of the Duchy of Berg, Söven formed one of the 31 communities or local districts in the canton of Hennef in the Grand Duchy of Berg from 1808 to 1813 and was administered by Mairie Hennef (from 1813 "Mayor of Hennef"). In Prussian times (from 1815) Söven remained part of the mayor's office in Hennef and was assigned to the Uckerath district (merged with the Siegburg district in 1820 , renamed “Siegkreis” in 1825). Attractions

The Chapel of the Sorrowful Mother dates from around 1780 and was rebuilt after a fire in 1895. A former station of the Prussian optical telegraph (neighboring stations: Forsthaus Telegraph and Sauerwiese ) was used as a school from 1859 to 1923, today it is a residential building. The oldest preserved courtyard from the “monastery era” is the Felderhof, which has been state-owned since 1803 and is now privately owned.

A 1.6 km long pear avenue stretches along Blankenbacher Straße between Söven and Blankenbach. The avenue that shapes the landscape can already be seen in aerial photos from 1934. In addition to the table pear delicacies from Charneux , there are Rheinbirnen and Ölligsbirnen , two old regional varieties . Some of the trees are estimated to be around 200 years old. According to the story of a Söven resident, a mother and her children had to seek shelter behind the trees during World War II because they were targeted by American planes. Running from tree to tree, they finally came home safe. In April 2013 by was Rhineland Regional Council funded rehabilitation project of the Biological Station in the Rhein-Sieg-Kreis e. V. and the city of Hennef, where the poorly maintained trees were cut, shrubbery removed and 55 young trees were planted.
