history
In the 13th century there were first indications of a few yards west of Kurscheid . The old high German westar (west) remained part of the name, the local ending hausen indicates a Saxon conquest. In 1307 an Adolph de Westerhusen is mentioned for the first time in a document .
Westerhausen belonged to the Honnschaft Kurscheid and thus to the parish Geistingen , and subsequently also to the Duchy of Berg with the Blankenberg office . Westerhausen soon became more important than Kurscheid and today has more residents.
As a result of the French War of Succession, robbing French troops crossed the place in 1689 and brought the Red Ruhr with them, which claimed many lives. It is assumed that over 200 people died in the Kurscheid district.
In 1901 the Church of St. Michael was completed and blessed. The church was partially destroyed during the Second World War and only got the look it still has today in the 1950s.
Until 1934 Westerhausen belonged to the Geistingen community .
