Islamic Museum in Jerusalem

The Islamic Museum ( Arabic المتحف الإسلام, DMG al-Matḥaf al-Islāmī ; engl. Islamic Museum / Islamic Museum of the Haram al-Sharif) is located in the Old City of Jerusalem near the al-Aqsa Mosque on the Haram al-Sharif ( Arabic الحرم الشريف, DMG al-ḥaram aš-šarīf  'the noble sanctuary') or Temple Mount ( הר הבית Har haBait ).

One of its current buildings was originally built in 1282 during the Mamluk period. Today's modern museum was founded in 1922 and moved to its current location in 1929.

The museum houses a larger collection of important Islamic manuscripts. The Ḥaram documents from the Mamluk period were rediscovered in the museum's holdings in the 1970s . It also houses a larger collection of Koran manuscripts.

The director of the Islamic Museum, Khader Salameh , is also the director of the library of the al-Aqsa mosque .
