Boulengeromyrus knoepffleri is an African freshwater fish from the Nile pike family(Mormyridae). Its distribution area is limited to the Ivindo riversin northeastern Gabon and Ntem in the border region of Equatorial Guinea , Gabon and Cameroon .

features

Boulengeromyrus knoepffleri becomes a maximum of 41.3 cm long. Its body is elongated and flattened on the sides. The long tail fin stalk is clearly separated from the body. Its length is 20.1 to 24.8% of the standard length and its height is 23.1 to 27.6% of the length. The caudal fin is deeply forked. The body height is 28 to 30% of the standard length, the head length 29 to 33% of the standard length. The head height is 67 to 77% of the head length. The snout is not extended like a trunk. Their length is 50 to 60% of the post- orbital head length. The top of the head is straight, the long muzzle points downwards. The bottom of the head is concave. The mouth is terminal. In each jaw there is a row of 3 to 5 teeth in the upper and 4 to 6 in the lower jaw. The nostrils are below an imaginary line that touches the lower edge of the eye close together. The eyes are small, their diameter is about 6.2 to 11.1% of the length of the head. An oval area around the eyes is unpigmented. Boulengeromyrus knoepffleri is from deep purple to metallic bluish in color. A zone below the head is white. The front longest fin rays of the dorsal and anal fin are black, the rear ones are transparent. The dorsal fin begins slightly in front of the anal fin. It's a little shorter. The pelvic fins are closer to the long pectoral fins than to the anal fin. Like all Nilhechte, Boulengeromyrus knoepffleri is capable of electrical communication and electrical orientation. Its electrical signal is of a simple biphasic form with two peaks and an average duration of 0.39 milliseconds.

Systematics

Boulengeromyrus knoepffleri is the only species of the genus Boulengeromyrus , which is monotypical with it, and the sister species of Ivindomyrus . The genus was named in honor of the British zoologist and ichthyologist George Albert Boulenger .
