Ivindomyrus is a genus of African freshwater fish from the Nilhechte family(Mormyridae). The genus occurs with two species in Lower Guinea from southern Cameroon to Gabon .

features

The fish are 18 to 27 cm long. The body is slightly high back and flattened at the sides, the back profile is curved or almost straight, the head profile is round or slightly concave. The eyes are small, the mouth is below. Each jaw has a row of teeth. The teeth are slightly two-pointed, 5 to 8 are in the upper jaw and 6 to 8 in the lower jaw. The front and rear nostrils are close together, in the middle between the eyes and the tip of the snout. The chin swelling is small or medium in size. The tail stalk is clearly separated from the trunk and is slender and long. The pelvic fins are closer to the pectoral fins than to the anal fin. The dorsal fin is shorter than the anal fin, its front end lies behind the front end of the anal fin.

Ivindomyrus differs from Hippopotamyrus castor , the only Hippopotamyrus species in Gabon and Lower Guinea, in that the dorsal and anal fin are offset from one another; in Hippopotamyrus castor they are exactly symmetrical. In Hippopotamyrus castor , the two central teeth in the lower jaw are elongated, while in Ivindomyrus they are exactly as long as the neighboring teeth. From Pollimyrus can Ivindomyrus the nostrils are distinguished by the position. Like all Nilhechte, Ivindomyrus species are capable of electrical communication and electrical orientation .
