Freimann Mosque of the IZM

Islamic Center Munich (IZM) is a center of Islam in Munich in the district of Schwabing-Freimann and was opened in 1973 and founded as the seat of the Islamic Community in Germany eV and belongs to the Central Council of Muslims in Germany . The IZM is monitored by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution of the Free State of Bavaria due to its connection to the Muslim Brotherhood .

history

On March 6, 1960, the "Mosque Building Commission eV" was founded in Munich with the aim of building a mosque in Munich. The opening ceremony of the center took place on August 24, 1973. In the same year Ghaleb Himmat took over the management of the center. In 1974 a full-time imam was appointed.

There is the series of publications of the Islamic Center Munich . A well-known person at the center is Ahmad von Denffer . According to the former head Mohammed Mahdi Akef , the IZM belongs to the Muslim Brotherhood , of which he was Supreme Leader from 2004 to 2010. On August 18, 2006, the IZM took part in the “Just Peace for Lebanon and Palestine” demonstration in Munich.

Church services

The five daily prayers can be performed in the associated Freimann mosque . The sermons in the context of the Friday prayer and the two festive prayers will be simultaneously translated from Arabic into German.

criticism

In August 2019, the IZM came into criticism because, with reference to the Koran verse Sura 4:34, it had seen "beatings as a last resort in the case of marriage difficulties" as legitimate.
