The Iso Rivolta 300 is a luxury coupe developed in 1962 by Iso Automotoveicoli SpA in Bresso , a suburb of Milan . It was the intention of the entrepreneur Renzo Rivolta , together with the former Ferrari engineer Giotto Bizzarrini, to create a Gran Turismo car in the original sense of the word (“big journey”). For racing, however, the Iso Rivolta 300 was not homologated as a “GT” (Gran Turismo), but as a touring car .
Between 1962 and 1970, 792 Bertone Coupés were built, with the designation varying between GT Coupé, IR 300/340 or just Iso-Rivolta. In 1968 an Iso Rivolta GT Coupé cost 41,855 DM or 44,900 SFr.
Construction of the Iso Rivolta 300/340
According to the will of its designers, the car should be characterized by a powerful engine, high-quality chassis and an elegant body.
engine and gears
The engine and gearbox of the Iso Rivolta 300 are not in-house designs, but rather large-scale units from General Motors or BorgWarner . The 5.4 liter V8 cylinder corresponds to that of the Chevrolet Corvette . The four-speed gearbox is fully synchronized and is shifted with a center lever.
landing gear
The front wheels of the Iso Rivolta 300 are suspended on double wishbones of different lengths with anti-roll bars. The rear of the car has a De-Dion axle with Watt linkage (for precise lateral guidance of the axle) and double trailing arms. Front and rear wheel suspensions have coil springs and telescopic hydraulic shock absorbers. The steering (recirculating ball steering) is unusually indirect with five turns of the steering wheel from lock to lock (turning circle diameter approx. 12.5 m). With a caster of 7 ° 30 ', on the other hand, the Iso Rivolta 300's directional stability is very good even at speeds over 200 km / h.
body
The sleek and luxurious body was created by Bertone , a coupé with a wheelbase of 270 cm that offers enough space for four to five people. The interior is equipped with cowhide for an extra charge. The arrangement of the steering wheel, gear lever, switches and pedals is considered exemplary, with the distance has been selected by the brake to the accelerator pedal so that light with " intermediate gas can be switched back".
