Israel Institute for Biological Research

The Israeli Institute for Biological Research , English Israel Institute for Biological Research (IIBR) , is a state institute in Israel that in biology, pharmaceutical chemistry is searchingly active and Environmental Sciences. It was established in 1952 and reports to the office of the Israeli Prime Minister. It emerged from the "Hemed Beit" unit formed in 1948 for biological warfare based in Jaffa .

Sponsors include United States, Germany, and WHO agencies . The facility is located in Nes Ziona , about 20 km south of Tel-Aviv . There are around 370 employees, including 160 scientists and 170 technicians.

When the airline El-Al-Flug 1862 crashed in Amsterdam on October 4, 1992, the institute also had 240 kilograms of the chemical dimethylmethylphosphonate on board, which can be used, among other things, as a raw material for the nerve toxin sarin .
