Issam El-Bashir

Sheikh Issam El-Bashir ( Arabic عصام البشير, DMG ʿIṣām al-Bašīr ; * 1956 in Tindelti , Sudan ) is an Islamic clergyman and politician of the Muslim Brotherhood . He received his PhD in Islamic theology from the Islamic University of Omdurman in Sudan. He was General Secretary of the International Moderation Center (IMC) (المركز العالمي للوسطية) in Kuwait and former Minister for Religious Affairs in Sudan. He taught at various universities.

He is a member of the board of directors of the International Union of Muslim Scholars and many other bodies and institutions, including the Institut Européen des Sciences Humaines (IESH) and the European Council for Fatwa and Research (ECFR).

He was one of the signatories of the Amman Message ( Amman Message ) and one of the 138 signatories of the open letter a common word between us and you ( Engl. A Common Word Between Us and You ), the personalities of Islam to "leaders of Christian churches everywhere “(" Leaders of Christian Churches, everywhere ... ") sent (October 13, 2007).

In 2009 and 2012 he was listed in the list of 500 Most Influential Muslims by the Prince al-Walid-bin-Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding of Georgetown University and the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Center of Jordan .

He is the author of several works on Wasatiyya ( wasatiyya  /وسطية), an Islam of the middle, beyond extremism and fanaticism .
