Reiman studied from 1949 at the Eötvös Loránd University , where he stayed after graduating in 1953 and taught geometry. After completing his habilitation in 1970, he was Professor of Geometry at the Budapest Technical University until 1996.

In graph theory, he proved Reiman's theorem . For 40 years (1961 to 2002) he prepared the Hungarian teams for the Mathematics Olympiad and published books with the tasks assigned there. He led a youth group of the Hungarian Mathematical Society , which met regularly on Saturdays and was visited by many mathematicians who were later known in Hungary.
