István Szívós senior

István Szívós (born August 20, 1920 in Budapest ; † June 22, 1992 there ) was a Hungarian water polo player .

He was with the Hungarian national water polo team in 1952 and 1956 Olympic champion and won silver at the 1948 Games . In 1954 Szívós became European champions with the Hungarian team. In 1956 he also started - albeit without success - in the 200-meter breast swimming competition.

After the Hungarian uprising was bloodily suppressed in 1956 , Szívós was one of the five players who returned to Hungary immediately after the 1956 Olympic Games. In total, he played 64 international matches for Hungary. In 1997 he was inducted into the international swimming pool of fame . His son István was Olympic champion in water polo in 1976, his grandson Márton was vice world champion in 2005 and 2007.
