Istvánné Vass

Istvánné Vass (birth name: Erzsébet Metzker ; * March 20, 1915 ; † August 8, 1980 ) was a Hungarian politician of the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party ( Magyar Szocialista Munkáspárt ) and between 1963 and 1967 first President of the Hungarian Parliament ( Országgyűlés in Hungarian ).

biography

Istvánné Vass, born as Erzsébet Metzker, became Vice-President of the National Assembly in 1955 and initially held this office until 1963. Subsequently, on March 21, 1963, she succeeded Sándor Rónai as President of the National Assembly and thus first President of the Hungarian Parliament.

After a four-year term of office, she was succeeded on April 14, 1967 by the previous Prime Minister Gyula Kállai as President of the Parliament, while she herself again became Vice-President of the National Assembly and held this office until 1976. At the same time, she was a member of the State Council , the collective state presidency, between 1971 and 1976 .
