Italo Viglianesi

Italo VIGLIANESI (* 1. January 1916 in Caltagirone , Catania , Sicily ; † 19th January 1995 in Rome ) was an Italian trade union functionary and politician of the Italian Democratic Socialist Party (PSDI) and later the Italian Socialist Party (PSI), the between 1953 and 1969 General Secretary of the UIL ( Unione Italiana del Lavoro ) and from 1963 to 1979 the Senate ( Senato della Repubblica ) as a member. He was Minister for Transport and Civil Aviation from 1970 to 1972.

Life

Viglianesi worked as a trade union official and was general secretary of the UIL ( Unione Italiana del Lavoro ) between 1953 and 1969 . He was also a member of the National Board of the National Council for Economy and Labor CNEL ( Consiglio nazionale dell'economia e del lavoro ) .

In the elections of April 28, 1963 he was elected for the first time for PSDI as a member of the Senate ( Senato della Repubblica ) and represented the interests of the Lombardy region until June 19, 1979 . During the fourth legislative period , he was a member of the Senate Standing Committee on Labor, Emigration and Social Security from July 1963 to December 1966, and from June 1963 to June 1968 Secretary of the Parliamentary Committee for Broadcasting Supervision. He was also the successor to Edgardo Lami Starnuti on March 18, 1965 chairman of the PSDI parliamentary group in the Senate, before he was replaced by this on November 9, 1966. At the same time he was a member of the Rules Committee from April 1965 to January 1968 and a member of the Senate's Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs between December 1966 and October 1970. On October 23, 1968, he moved to PSI and in 1969 resigned from his position as General Secretary of the UIL, whereupon he was replaced by a team of three General Secretaries ( Lino Ravecca , Ruggero Ravenna and Raffaele Vanni ).

Viglianesi was one of the Vice-Presidents of the Senate from March 7, 1969 to March 26, 1970 and was subsequently appointed Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation (Ministro dei trasporti e dell'aviazione civile) in his third cabinet on March 27, 1970 by Prime Minister Mariano Rumor appointed and held this ministerial office in the Colombo cabinet until February 16, 1972.

In addition, between October 1970 and May 1972 he was also a member of the Senate Standing Committee on Finance and Treasury and, in the sixth legislative period from July 1972 to September 1973, initially a member of the Senate Standing Committee on Public Works and Communication, before being a member again between September 1973 and July 1976 of the Senate Standing Committee on Finance and Treasury. During his final years in the Senate, Viglianesi served in the sixth legislative period from July 1976 to June 1979 as Chairman of the Senate's Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs.
