Itamar Borochov

Itamar Borochov (* 1984 ) is an Israeli jazz musician ( trumpet , composition ).

Borochov, who comes from a Bucharian family , grew up in Jaffa and worked with the Jewish-Moroccan liturgist Rabbi Haim Louk. He wrote compositions for the New Jerusalem Orchestra and recorded with the Israeli rock musician Dudu Tassa . In 2006 Borochov went to New York, where he worked with Curtis Fuller , Cándido Camero , Arnie Lawrence and Bobby Sanabria as well as Aaron Goldberg , Greg Tardy and Omer Avital . He was also a trumpeter and arranger in the world music band Yemen Blues . With his father, the multi-instrumentalist Yisrael Borochov, and his brother, the bassist Avri Borochov, he interpreted Jewish-Bucharian songs as Borochov Dynasty .

With his quartet, in which his brother Avri Bass plays, he released two albums: The debut album Outset (2014) was included in the "New York City Jazz Record's Best of 2014 List". His second album Boomerang (2016) was hailed as a "revelation" in Jazz Magazine and reached number 5 on the iTunes Jazz Charts . There Borochov "found his own unique style in jazz by fusing the Western and Middle Eastern sound worlds." Currently (2019) Borochov leads a quartet that includes either Dave Kikoski , Alexander Claffy and Daniel Dor or Rob Clearfield , Cedric Raymond and Jay Sawyer .

Borochov has performed internationally and has given concerts at the Roskilde Festival (Denmark), the Ethno Port Festival (Poland) and the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal .
