Idavere (German Itfer or Ittfer ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality of Haljala ( Haljala vald ) in the Estonian district of Lääne-Virumaa .

Location and description

Idavere is ten kilometers northwest of Rakvere . The village has 62 inhabitants (as of 2006).

The settlement was first mentioned in 1241 under the name Honolius . The farm was Onalja from 1499 Itterver called. In 1474 the village and the farm merged.

Good Idavere

The former manor of Idavere with its park is no longer preserved. The last owner of the estate before the Estonian land reform in 1919 was the noble Baltic German family Wrangel (also Wrangell ).

Personalities

The painter Paul von Tiesenhausen (1836 / 37–1876) was born here.
