Iván Ramiro Parra Pinto (born October 14, 1975 in Sogamoso ) is a former Colombian cyclist .

Athletic career

In 1995 and 1997 Iván Parra, younger brother of the successful cyclist Fabio Parra , won the overall ranking of the Vuelta de la Juventud Colombia . In 1998 he became a professional with the Colombian cycling team Lotería de Boyaca . After moving to the Spanish team Vitalicio Seguros , he finished ninth in the overall standings at the first major tour in which he took part, the Vuelta a España .

In 2000 Parra took his first victory when he won a stage of the Tour of Galicia . A year later he moved to Manolo Saiz's successful Spanish ONCE team , from where he joined Kelme in 2003 . Here he was sixth in the Tour of Catalonia in 2004 . Shortly before the start of the 2005 season, he got a contract with the local team Colombia-Selle Italia . In the spring he became the Colombian time trial champion, and a little later he caused a surprise at the Giro d'Italia : He won two consecutive mountain stages and came second in the mountain classification behind his team-mate José Rujano .

Iván Parra started in all three major tours, the Giro, the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España .

He ended his career at the end of the 2014 season.
