Ivan Diviš (born September 18, 1924 in Prague , † April 7, 1999 ibid) was a Czech poet .

Life

During the Second World War he attended grammar school in Prague. In 1941 he was arrested by the Gestapo and later released. From 1942 to 1949 he was an apprentice in a bookstore, employee and editor of the Václav Petr publishing house. After graduating from high school, he studied philosophy and aesthetics at the Charles University from 1945 to 1949 . From 1960 to 1968 he worked for the newspaper Mladá fronta ("The Young Front") and briefly for the magazine Sešity ("Hefte") as an editor. In August 1969 he went into exile in Munich and worked as an editor for the radio station Free Europe . He returned to the Czech Republic in 1997.
