Ivan Kurz (born November 29, 1947 in Prague ) is a Czech composer and music teacher.

Kurz studied from 1966 to 1971 at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague with Emil Hlobil , then he did his doctorate with Václav Dobiáš . From 1971 to 1975 he was a music editor for Czech television. From 1977 he taught at the Academy of Performing Arts, where he was vice dean from 1990 and dean of the music faculty from 1997 to 2000. From 1996 to 2005 he was Professor of Composition. His students include Vladimír Wimmer , Robert Hejnar , Michael Keprt and Michal Rataj .

Briefly composed orchestral works, chamber music, several oratorios and an opera melodrama, as well as several drama and film scores. In 1974 he received first prize in the Generace composition competition and in 1975 the prize of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic. In 1980 and 1989 he was awarded the Prize of the Union of Czech Composers and Concert Artists, and in 1990 the Prize of the Czech Music Fund.
