Ivan Slamnig

Ivan Slamnig (born June 24, 1930 Metković ; † July 3, 2001 in Zagreb ) was a Yugoslav or Croatian poet , narrator , essayist and translator .

Life

Slamnig attended elementary school in Metković and Dubrovnik before moving to Zagreb. There he continued his education at the classical grammar school and then at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Zagreb , where, after graduating, he worked as a professor in the department of comparative literature . Since 1992 he has been a full member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts .

Works

Slamnig is best known as the author of several anthological poetry collections ( Aleja poslije svečanosti , German avenue after the festivity; Odron , German demolition; Naronska siesta , German siesta of Narona; Pjesme , German poems, etc.) and the first Croatian postmodern Romans ( Bolja polovica hrabrosti , dt. Better half of courage). He also wrote monographs on the history of literature and translated from English , Russian , Italian and Swedish . In addition to erudition and lyrical artism, humor is the most impressive quality of his poetry, both in literary and scientific works. Because of the use of humor as an element of innovation and its daring inference, it became equally popular with readers and scholars. For his last collection of poems, Ranjeni tenk ( Eng . Wounded Tank), he was posthumously awarded the most prestigious literary prize in Croatia, the Tin Ujević Prize (2001).
