Ivana Jelić

Ivana Jelić (born March 17, 1975 in Titograd , Yugoslavia ) is a Montenegrin lawyer and judge at the European Court of Human Rights .

Live and act

Jelić studied law at the University of Montenegro from 1994 . This course consisted of a three-year basic law course and a one-year specialization in international public law. In 1998 she completed her studies with a Bachelor of Laws. From 2001 to 2004 she completed a master's degree at the University of Belgrade . Here, too, she specialized in international public law and human rights law. In 2004 she obtained a Master of Laws with her thesis Contemporary Legal Protection of National Minorities, with Special Emphasize on the SEE . In 2007, she received his doctorate for a PhD degree from the University of Berkeley with the work International State Responsibility for the Unlawful Acts Done by Natural Persons to Dr. iur. From 2008 to 2012 she worked for the Steering Committee for Human Rights (CDDH) of the Council of Europe .

Jelić has been Professor of Human Rights at the University of Montenegro since 2013. From 2015 to 2018 she was a member and since March 2017 also Vice President of the UN Human Rights Commission . In April 2018, Jelić was elected judge at the European Court of Human Rights as the representative of Montenegro . She began her term of office in 2018, which is expected to last until 2027.
