Ivar Hellman

Ivar Hellman (born January 21, 1891 in Norrköping , † February 19, 1994 ) was a Swedish conductor and composer.

Hellman completed a degree as an organist at the Stockholm Conservatory until 1911 . He then studied conducting with Carl Corbach in Sondershausen. From 1913 to 1928 he headed the Orchestra Society of Norrköping and from 1914 to 1928 the Choir of the Music Society. After that he was a conductor for the Swedish Radio until 1958 . In 1971 he became a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music .

Hellman conducted the world premieres of many compositions by contemporary Swedish composers. His own compositional work is not very extensive. The kung march with festival music and festival hall is now part of the standard repertoire of Swedish military bands . His Konsertstycke för violin och orkester has also remained in concert use . Further compositions are a symphonic suite and the symphonic cantata Sangen .
