Ivo Preis (born November 8, 1929 in Prague ) is a German trumpeter and arranger of Czech origin who was active in both classical and jazz .

Price studied from 1951 to 1958 with Jaroslav Kolár at the conservatory in his hometown; In a poll for the best bebop musicians in the country, he was second best trumpeter in 1952.

Between 1954 and 1959 he was one of the big bands of Karel Vlach and Karel Krautgartner ; then he worked in the Prague Film Symphony Orchestra, and since 1964 he has been the leader of the trumpets with the Prague Symphony Orchestra. In 1968 he recorded an album with classical trumpet concerts, which was released by Supraphon in 1971 . After the crackdown on the Prague Spring , he fled to the Federal Republic of Germany.

He turned down a job with the Berlin Philharmonic under Herbert von Karajan in order to work as first trumpeter in the radio orchestra of the Hessischer Rundfunk ; he stayed in this ensemble until it was dissolved in 1993, and then belonged to the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra until his retirement . In addition, he played on other records that were published. In 1979 Preis was on a tour of Japan with the Bach Collegium Stuttgart . Occasionally he also played in the hr big band under Heinz Schönberger . He can also be heard on recordings with his own jazz groups (1960, 1965), Karel Vlach, Karel Krautgartner, Ladislav Bezubka and the Frankfurt Jazz Big Band (El Carpincho) . He also arranged jazz pieces for the Sachsenhausen accordion orchestra .
