Ivan Fedorovich Schimkow ( Russian Иван Фёдорович Шимков , Ukrainian Іван Федорович Шимков Ivan Fedorowytsch Schymkow ; born August 1803 in Michnowka , Poltava Governorate , Russian Empire ; † 23. August 1836 in Baturino ( Батурино ), Irkutsk Governorate , Russian Empire) was a Russian Decembrist .

Life

Ivan Schimkow was born in what is now Mychniwka, the Ukrainian Oblast of Poltava, to noble parents in August 1803 and later studied at Kharkov University . On July 7, 1820 he joined the Alexopol Infantry Regiment of the Russian Army and on August 10, 1823 he received the rank of Praporschtschik in the Saratov Infantry Regiment. From 1825 on he was a member of the illegal Pan-Slavic society of the united Slavs . After the Decembrist revolt, he was arrested on February 14, 1826 and taken from Zhytomyr to Saint Petersburg to the Peter and Paul Fortress , where he was incarcerated on February 22, 1826. On July 10, 1826, he was sentenced to 12 years of forced labor as a culprit of Category IV determined by the investigative commission, but the sentence was reduced to 8 years on August 22, 1826. From the Peter and Paul Fortress, he began the transport of prisoners to Siberia on January 27, 1827, where he arrived in the Ostrog Chita ( Читинский острог ) in Transbaikalia on March 17, 1827 and in September 1830 in the Katorga Petrovsky Savod ( Peter Hut) was relocated. After serving his sentence on January 25, 1833, he was forcibly resettled in the village of Baturino in the Irkutsk governorate, where he worked in agriculture and translated writings from French. In 1834 he applied for a settlement in Minusinsk in vain . His request to marry Fekla Dementjewna Baturina, who had helped him with the housekeeping for three years, was granted in 1836, but due to his death the wedding never took place. According to his will, the bride received all of his inheritance.

He was buried on August 3, 1836 in the church cemetery in Baturino.
