Ivan Lazarov
Ivan Stefanow Lasarow ( Bulgarian Иван Стефанов Лазаров ; born October 2, 1889 in Karlovo , † November 4, 1952 in Sofia ) was a Bulgarian sculptor .
Life
He completed an art degree in Sofia in 1912. From 1923 he worked as a professor. From 1932 to 1935, 1937 to 1939 and 1943 to 1945 he was director of the Sofia Art Academy. In 1949 he took over the position of director of the Institute for Art Research, which he held until 1952. He was a member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences .
In his work he often dealt with rural motifs. However, Lazarov also created busts of well-known Bulgarian personalities, especially from the phase of the Bulgarian Revival . In addition, he also wrote articles on art theory and art critical topics. He also wrote scientific studies.
