Ivan Vasilyevich Doronin

Captain Ivan Doronin ( Russian Иван Васильевич Доронин ; born April 22 . Jul / 5. May  1903 greg. In Kmenka today Saratov Oblast ; † 2. February 1951 in Moscow ) was a Soviet aircraft pilot and was on 20th April 1934 to Hero of the Soviet Union appointed.

Life

Ivan Doronin volunteered for the naval fleet in 1920 and soon attended the naval aviation school in Leningrad . He finished his training at the Aviation School in Sevastopol in 1925 and then served as a sea ​​pilot in the Black Sea Fleet and as a flight instructor at the Sea Aviation School in Sevastopol. In 1930 Doronin switched to civil aviation for polar flying (Awiaarktika). There he was a transport pilot on the Irkutsk-Jakutsk-Bodaibo route.

In 1934 Doronin joined the CPSU . In the same year he was involved in the rescue operation for the castaways of the Cheliuskin expedition with his aircraft PS-4 , for whom a makeshift runway on the frozen surface of the Chukchi Sea had to be used. For this he was awarded the Order of Hero of the Soviet Union on April 20, 1934 in the rank of captain , which had been donated on the occasion of this rescue operation.

From 1939 Doronin headed the flight test department in an aircraft factory. In the same year he was promoted to colonel. 1947 ended his professional career due to his illness.

Doronin was two-time bearer of the Order of Lenin and the Order of the Red Star and the Order of the Red Banner .
