Ivan Wladimirowitsch Karetnikow ( Russian Иван Владимирович Каретников ; born March 4, 1942 in Stalingrad , Russian SFSR , Soviet Union ) is a former Soviet- Russian swimmer .

At the European Championships in 1962 in Leipzig (GDR) Karetnikow was vice European champion (200 m chest) behind his compatriot Georgi Prokopenko . At the Summer Universiade in Porto Alegre in 1963 , he won a gold medal (200 m chest) ahead of the Spaniard Nazario Padrón .

In 1962 and 1963 Karetnikow was the Soviet champion (200 m chest). In addition, with a time of 02: 31.9 on August 11, 1963, he set a European record over 200 m chest (50 m track).
