Izumi Miyazaki

Izumi Miyazaki ( Japanese 宮 崎 い ず 美 , Miyazaki Izumi , * 1994 in Yamanashi Prefecture ) is a Japanese photographer .

Miyazaki was 18 years old and was studying Imaging Arts and Science at the College of Art and Design at the Musashino Art School in Tokyo when she became known to art critics in 2012.

Most of her pictures are self-portraits in which she “mixes humor and absurdity with a reality that is usually found in street photography” and which are reminiscent of René Magritte .

CNN describes her images as "surreal, grotesque, often humorous self-portraits that look like they 're turning the concept of kawaii upside down."

In 2015, she was named a new star in the world of photography by TIME .

Most of her work can be found online, but in 2016 she also had an exhibition in Luxembourg .

Miyazaki names the American photographers Alex Prager and Magritte as her sources of inspiration.
