The Pico Jálama ( Fala : Xálima ) is with a height of about 1490 m the third highest mountain of the Sierra de Gata , the western part of the Iberian Mountains , which in this area also forms the geographical border between Spain and Portugal .
location
The summit of Pico Jálama forms the border between three municipalities (municipios) and two provinces in western Spain: San Martín de Trevejo and Acebo ( province of Cáceres ) and El Payo ( province of Salamanca ).
Ascent
Usually the mountain is hiked in a day tour from Acebo (approx. 18 km); the end point can be in San Martín de Trevejo (10 km) - there are overnight accommodations in both places. The easily recognizable path leads through deciduous and coniferous forests and bushes; the summit region is bare, rocky and often windy. The reverse route and alternative routes are of course also possible.
