Jürgen Stiefel (born December 21, 1953 in Esslingen am Neckar ) is a former German water polo player .

Jürgen Stiefel from SSV Esslingen made his debut in the national team in 1971 , and at the 1972 Olympic Games he was the youngest player in the German team. He was used in eight games and scored five goals. The German team ultimately took fourth place. In 1974 he took part in the European Championships and in 1975 in the World Championships. In his second Olympic participation in 1976 in Montreal , he scored eight goals in eight games and finished sixth with the team. At the 1978 World Water Polo Championship he was the top scorer with 21 goals.

The highlight of his sporting career was winning the European championship in Split in 1981. In 1982 he retired from the German national team shortly before the World Cup for professional reasons, a comeback in 1983 was unsuccessful. Jürgen Stiefel played a total of 229 international matches for Germany from 1971 to 1983.

Jürgen Stiefel studied industrial engineering and went into business for himself with a fellow student after graduating. Jürgen Stiefel's daughter Jennifer Stiefel is a German national player, his nephew Steffen Dierolf took part in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens with the national team.
