Steffen Dierolf

Steffen Dierolf (born May 5, 1976 in Esslingen am Neckar ) is a former German water polo player .

Career

Steffen Dierolf belonged to SV Cannstatt until 2006 , with which he became German champion in 2006. After SV Cannstatt withdrew its Bundesliga team, Dierolf and Florian Naroska moved to SSV Esslingen , Dierolf's home club.

Steffen Dierolf has been a member of the German national water polo team since 1997. He took part in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens when the German team reached 5th place. At the 2005 World Water Polo Championships , the German team finished 9th, in 2007 the team came 8th in 2003 and in 2008 the team was sixth at the European Championships. Dierolf made 312 international matches from 1997 to 2008. National coach Hagen Stamm appointed Dierolf to the team for the Olympic Games in Beijing. During the medical fitness check he was diagnosed with severe heart disease, which is why he ended his competitive sports career immediately. For him, Marko Stamm moved up to the Olympic squad.

Steffen Dierolf's uncle Jürgen Stiefel took part in the Olympic Games in 1972 and 1976 with the German national water polo team. Steffen's sister Katrin was also a national water polo player. Cousin Jennifer Stiefel was also a European Championship participant.
